We use Enlighten Evolution™ — the only whitening system that guarantees a B1 result. Two weeks, one in-chair session, a result that lasts years.
Tooth discolouration is gradual. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking all leave deposits on enamel that build up over years. Brushing removes some of it. Professional cleaning removes more. But the underlying colour change in the enamel itself — that takes a whitening treatment.
Professional whitening works. Over-the-counter kits have a legal limit of 0.1% hydrogen peroxide — low enough to be largely ineffective. Dentist-administered systems like Enlighten use concentrations that actually change the enamel colour. The difference in result between the two is substantial.
In the UK, only a GDC-registered dentist can legally provide teeth whitening treatment. Products sold by beauticians, on social media, or at kiosks fall outside this regulation — and they carry real risk of chemical burns and enamel damage. This isn't a disclaimer for the sake of it. It's worth knowing before you spend money on something that either won't work or will cause harm.
We see patients for teeth whitening from Pinner, Harrow, Northwood, Ruislip and Eastcote. If you want to know whether you're a suitable candidate before committing, the consultation is free.

Enlighten is one of the few whitening systems with a clinical guarantee of B1 — the whitest shade on the standard dental shade guide. Most whitening systems claim results; Enlighten guarantees them.
The treatment runs over approximately two weeks. Custom-fitted trays are made from impressions of your teeth. You wear them overnight with the whitening gel for two weeks at home, then come in for a 90-minute in-chair session to complete the treatment.
The in-chair session uses a higher-concentration gel applied in the practice under controlled conditions. This is the part that takes the result to B1.
The process is straightforward. Most patients find it less involved than they expected.
We check your teeth and gums are healthy enough to whiten, take your current shade using the VITA shade guide, and confirm you're a suitable candidate. If you have significant existing restorations, we'll flag any shade-matching issues before you start.
Impressions are taken of your upper and lower teeth. These go to a dental laboratory where close-fitting whitening trays are made. Properly fitted trays keep the gel in contact with the teeth — loose-fitting trays waste gel and reduce the result.
You apply Enlighten whitening gel to your trays and wear them overnight for two weeks. Most patients adapt to sleeping with the trays within a night or two. The gel concentration is calibrated for safe overnight use.
After the two weeks at home, you come in for the final in-chair session. A higher-concentration gel is applied in the practice to complete the whitening to B1. The appointment takes 90 minutes.
We confirm the final shade against the guide, photograph the result, and give you aftercare instructions. Your custom trays can be kept for top-up treatments in future — just purchase replacement gel.
Book a free consultation and we'll assess your suitability, show you the shade guide, and give you a written quote. No commitment at the appointment.
There are several things people expect whitening to do that it doesn't, and a few things it does that surprise patients. It helps to be clear about both.
Whitening gel penetrates the enamel and breaks down the chromogens (colour molecules) that cause discolouration. This is different from polishing, which only removes surface deposits.
With good home care and occasional top-ups with the trays, whitening results from Enlighten typically last 2–3 years. Smoking and heavy tea or coffee consumption shorten this.
B1 is the whitest shade on the VITA dental shade guide. Enlighten is one of the only commercial systems to guarantee it as an outcome rather than just an aspiration.
Enlighten's formula is clinically tested. Minor sensitivity during treatment is possible — using sensitive toothpaste for two weeks before starting reduces this considerably.
Whitening works on natural tooth enamel only. Crowns, veneers, bridges, composite bonding and tooth-coloured fillings will not change colour. If you have visible restorations that you want to match your whitened teeth, those will need replacing after treatment.
Whitening also doesn't fix decay or gum disease. These need to be treated before whitening starts — which is why a dental assessment before treatment is not just a formality.
Most adults with healthy teeth and gums are good candidates. These are the situations where whitening works well, and a few where it doesn't.
If you're unsure whether you're a candidate, the consultation will confirm it — and we'll tell you clearly if whitening isn't going to give you the result you're hoping for.

Over-the-counter whitening products sold in the UK are capped by law at 0.1% hydrogen peroxide — this is low enough that significant colour change is unlikely in most cases. The ones that do work more effectively are often imported and unregulated, which is a different problem.
The first 48 hours after the in-chair session matter most. After that, longer-term habits determine how long results hold.
One thing worth knowing: whitening results fade gradually, not suddenly. Most patients barely notice the change month to month. A top-up once a year or so keeps results consistently good without needing to restart the full course.
Whitening fixes staining that's already there. These habits slow the rate at which it returns.
"I was sceptical about how much difference it would make but the result was genuinely impressive. Two weeks of trays overnight and then the in-chair session — my teeth ended up noticeably whiter than I expected. Very straightforward process."
"Had the Enlighten whitening done before my wedding. The dentist was clear about what to expect and the results were exactly as described. No sensitivity issues whatsoever. Would recommend."
"Years of coffee staining cleared up in two weeks. The custom trays are comfortable to sleep in and the final in-chair session was painless. My hygienist was right — I should have done this years ago."
Teeth whitening at Pinner Green Dental is prescribed and supervised by GDC-registered dentists. In the UK, only GDC registrants can legally provide professional whitening treatment.
We're a certified Enlighten provider. This means training, ongoing support and access to the full Enlighten product range. Not every practice offering Enlighten is a certified provider.
Enlighten Evolution™ guarantees a B1 shade outcome. This isn't a marketing claim — it's a clinical guarantee that comes with the system. If you don't reach B1, the treatment continues until you do.
